In Chantal Akerman's 'D'Est' (1993), waiting is shown as a shared time, a shared experience, albeit a temporary and perhaps a daunting one. She said she wanted to make this film 'while there's still time'.
In 2017, I found myself walking along a street in Brussels, just about 400m long, called 'Rue Notre-Dame-du-Sommeil' (or 'Onze Lieve Vrouw van Vaak'). At the beginning of the 17th century there existed, on the edge of a field, a small chapel devoted to a madonna capable of curing people suffering from insomnia.
(It is said that Chantal Akerman had hypersomnia and sometimes directed her films in her pyjamas.)
